Old Sydney Harbour in all its auction glory

A rare 1856 colonial oil painting of Sydney Harbour featuring the former penal settlement at Cockatoo Island is one of the important highlights Fine Arts Auctions online sale from 11am Sunday December 12 at 239 Wickham Road, Moorabbin.

The auction, which mainly contains items from a Lysterfield mansion and Moorabbin estate, can only be viewed online because sale items are being held in separate locations – but condition reports and more photos are available on request. Bidding also is online, over the phone or via absentee bids.

Stamps, coins and postal history auction a farewell to 2021

Stamps, coins and postal history are the subject of Melbourne-based Leski Auctions last sale for 2021.

To be held from 10am Thursday December 9 at 727-729 High Street, Armadale, the auction has a larger than usual range of coins, banknotes and medals including an interesting collection of Australian half sovereigns (lots 26-51), featuring Queen Victoria young heads from 1871, and sovereigns (lots 52-89).

Deutscher and Hackett

A tinge of Italy in Australian art auction

Australian artist the late Jeffrey Smart (1921-2013) loved Italy, emigrating there in 1963 and eight years later acquiring the rustic farmhouse ‘Posticcia Nuova’ in central Tuscany.

It was the site for many of his paintings including The Arezzo Turn-off II, 1973 – which features prominently as lot 5 in Melbourne-based Deutscher and Hackett’s art auction from 7pm Wednesday December 8 at 105 Commercial Road, South Yarra.
