An exhibition quality 19th century French kingwood seven drawer bureau plait (lot 71) is a highlight of the outstanding offering of 18th and 19th century antiques and fine art from 12pm Sunday December 4 by Melbourne-based Christian McCann Auctions at 7 Harper Street, Abbotsford.

It is not the only furniture piece that will stun auction goers – with an outstanding 19th century circular giltwood specimen marble top table (lot 36) another major drawcard and a 19th century French boulle and ebon cabinet (lot 133) bound to catch buyers’ eyes.

These three items are among exceptional examples of 19th century French furniture that includes marquetry inlaid cabinets, ormolu mounted boulle, commodes, bergeres and gilt mirrors and 18th and 19th century English Regency rosewood and burr walnut.

A matched pair of 19th century French Sevres two handled lidded vases (lot 67) is among the museum quality collection of Sevres and English Royal Worcester that includes major John Stinton pieces (lots 140 and 141).

Another impressive vase is the 19th century Royal Berlin exhibit (lot 92) with hand painted nobles in a landscape adorning the piece.

The auction contains antique English and European signed bronze and marble sculptures – such as a 19th century French dancing maiden by Dom Vander Vossche (lot 64) – and an array of antique timepieces including carriage and bracket clocks and a collection of eight 18th and 19th century longcase clocks.

Featured are such gems as two 19th century French gilt bronze mantel clocks – one with hand painted Sevres panels (lot 77) and the other a museum quality example (lot 87) – and a 19th century French bronze and marble timepiece that shows a reclining maiden on a marble base (lot 152).

Australian art includes works by Charles Blackman, John Olsen, David Boyd, Hugh Sawrey, Pro Hart, Ernest Buckmaster and a rare tile top table by John Perceval. Typical is Blackman’s signed Untitled mixed media (lot 89).
