A sideboard on display in the Mornington Hotel is one of the highlights of Christian McCann Auctions last sale for the year from noon Sunday December 10 at 426 Burnley Street, Richmond.

It is part of an auction offering of 19th century English and French furniture that includes ormolu mounted boulle and marquetry inlaid occasional pieces along with vitrines and commodes.

Major collections from Toorak, Malvern and Parkville (and many individual vendors) have been assembled for this auction and a strong attraction is the outstanding 19th century French carved giltwood mirrors and antique ormolu and cut-glass chandeliers.

Australian art is another feature with major works by leading artists Fred Williams, Max Middleton, David Boyd, Pro Hart, Albert Sherman and Hugh Swrey on the agenda.

These are supplemented by a superb collection of 19th century English and continental gilt framed oil paintings.

Among the silver is an important pair of English antique wine coolers by Martin and Hall of Sheffield, while clock lovers will be impressed at the range of superb English and French timepieces – including salon clocks and clock sets and a 10-tube long case example.

Antique Chinese porcelain, jade and carved ivory are other significant drawcards.
