Leonard Joel’s specialist prints and photography auction features strong images and bold colours to particularly attract younger buyers keen to hang them in their homes or apartments.

With many of the items carrying estimates under $1000, it is the perfect opportunity for buyers to purchase works by well-known Australian artists at a fraction of the price they would pay for paintings.

The auction, from 11.30am Thursday May 26 at 333 Malvern Road South Yarra, features such prominent names as Jeffrey Smart, Sidney Nolan, John Olsen, David Boyd, Charles Blackman and Ray Crooke.

One of the more appealing pictures Jeffrey Smart’s giclee print Reflected Arrows 1974.

Another is Arthur Boyd’s off-set lithograph Earth and Fire. Buyers will also be interested in John Olsen’s etching The Slip Arrives and Tim Storrier’s Paint to Paint lithograph is a strong attraction.

Sidney Nolan has several works in the auction including Untitled (Brian the Stockman Mounting a Dead Horse) and Kelly and Horse lithograph, while Ray Crooke’s hand coloured silkscreen entitled Beach Scene, Thursday Island, 1956 is worth considering.

Other artists to feature include the Ethleen Palmer linocut Hornbills 1937, Polixeni Papapetrou Flying Cards and Mari Hirata Blue Cliff 2003, both type-c prints.
