A three-piece lounge suite designed by Walter Burley Griffin – the man responsible for designing the national capital, Canberra – will be a major highlight of Young’s Auctions next sale from 9.30am Friday at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The lounge suite joins a monogrammed chair made for Queen Elizabeth II’s first visit to Australia in 1954 as items bound to whet the appetite of auction goers this week.

Other furniture of interest includes Chesterfield leather couches, a French boulle cabinet, French salon chairs, a French settee and a Huon pine bookcase with threaded columns on the side.

The auction contains several watches and clocks, including a gents 18-carat gold Rolex and a musical French carriage clock, along with strong collections of English china and jewellery and two silver top canes.
