Weg posters go under the hammer

A collection of Weg posters and other items from the late Herald Sun cartoonist’s estate will be auctioned from 9.30am Friday August 28 by Young’s Auctions 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The collection includes a rare AFL Grand Final poster of the losing team (featuring 2007 runner up Port Adelaide) and the Donald Friend painting Cattle Drinking, estimated at $40,000-$50,000.

Weg always prepared posters for both grand finalists but the caricature of the losing team was never released to the public.

The auction contains several quality jewellery items – including a gold and 0.75-carat diamond ring – and a collection of about 20 Royal Doulton figures.

There are several pieces of Ralph Lauren furniture including a leather covered box coffee table with two drawers.

Another highlight is a bedroom furniture suite by Camberwell makers Schwarz & Angelo.
