Several well-known Australian artists are among a single owner collection of contemporary art being auctioned from 6.30pm Monday May 19 at Leonard Joel 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra.
Of particular interest is an oil painting (the only one of hers in the sale) by 2008 and 2013 Archibald Prize winner Del Kathryn Barton – while the catalogue front cover Approach to Minal Minali by Shaun Gladwell belongs to a series he showed in 2009 in Vencie while representing Australia, along with another of his sale paintings Approach to Road Kill.

Horses have long been one of Greg Mance’s great loves and, as part of the Windsor Smith shoe empire, he was able to indulge his passion through Carngham Station – a 2400-hectare horse training stud outside Ballarat.
Greg’s father Clarrie established Windsor Smith in 1946, the year his son was born. His father also loved to train trotters, which is probably how Greg inherited his love of racehorses.

Leonard Joel’s Australiana auction from 1.30pm on Thursday May 15 at 333 Malvern Road, South Yarra will have live bidding – both through the Leonard Joel and Invaluable websites – and feature many unusual items bound to intrigue auction goers.
Typical of the offerings is a Macintyre sterling mounted inkwell with a porcelain plaque inset for the 9th Australian Light Horse regiment.

One of the finest portraits by the prominent and influential Australian artist Tom Roberts (1856-1931) remaining in private ownership will be among paintings auctioned by Sotheby’s Australia as part of its Important Australian Art sale at the Intercontinental Sydney from 6.30pm on Tuesday May 13.
Most renowned for his pioneering subjects such as Shearing the Rams (1890, National Gallery of Victoria) and A Break Away! (Art Gallery of South Australia), Roberts is regarded as one of Australia’s finest portrait painters.

An unusual pair of Oriental drums and a pair of bronze dogs will be among strong attractions for auction goers at E.J. Ainger’s latest sale from 9.30am on Tuesday.
The auction contains expensive reproduction dining and lounge furniture, along with a fine Edwardian Sheraton mahogany four-door bookcase, burr walnut credenza and cabinet.
There also is Australian and English antique furniture and a good selection of estate jewellery.

The auction from 6.30pm on Tuesday at Mossgreen 926-930 High Street, Armadale is a great opportunity for art lovers to pick up quality works collected over many years by a professional art curator, according to Mossgreen managing director Paul Sumner.

One of the biggest Fred Williams paintings to come onto the secondary market will be auctioned by Bonhams as part of its Important Australian Art sale from 6.30pm Monday May 12 at Byron Kennedy Hall, Moore Park in Sydney.
Painted in 1968, the massive 1.8-metre by three-metre work, entitled Ferns Diptych (in two parts Ferns I and Ferns II) reflects a tumultuous event in Williams’ life.

The Milton and Alma Roxanas collection of Aboriginal art – that he began collecting in the 1980s after being introduced to Hogarth Galleries director and scholar Clive Evatt in Sydney – will be auctioned by Bonhams from 4pm on Sunday May 11 Byron Kennedy Hall in Moore Park.
Bonhams Aboriginal art specialists are confident the Roxanas collection will attract plenty of interest as it includes paintings by artists whose prices went through the roof when the auction house sold Clive Evatt’s comprehensive collection in November last year.

A plethora of silver plate items, Moorcroft vases, jewellery and an ivory banana are among attractions at Young’s Auctions latest sale from 9.30am Friday May 9 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.
The auction also contains, antique, retro and modern furniture including a dining table that can seat eight people.
