Luxury Toorak apartment items add Oriental auction attraction

Furniture items from a recently sold luxury Toorak 40-square apartment will comprise about 25 per cent of this week’s Young’s Auctions sale from 9.30am Friday July 24 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

The owner was Chinese and the furniture has distinctive Oriental flavour. It includes cherrywood dining table with eight chairs and three tall lacquered panels.

The collection also contains a contemporary lounge setting with leather chairs and settee from Natuzzi.

Other auction items include a modern porcelain doll collection and Georg Jensen silver plate.

Jewellery to bring in auction goers

Jewellery is the mainstay of Young’s Auctions latest weekly from 9.30am Friday July 17 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

Of particular interest to collectors will be a one-carat diamond ring and an art deco diamond brooch.

Swarovski crystal is another major attraction for auction goers. Produced in Wattens Austria, the electric cutting machine that facilitated the production of crystal glass was patented in 1892 by Daniel Swarovski.

USS Constitution sails into an auction sunset

A model of the United States Navy wooden-hulled three-masted heavy frigate USS Constitution will be auctioned as part of Young’s Auctions latest weekly sale from 9.30am Friday July 10 at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

Launched in 1798, Constitution is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat and is currently undergoing important restoration work at Charleston Navy Yard.

Military aircraft books an auction bonanza

Former Ansett Airlines pilot, the late Paul Gray, was a mad collector of mainly military aircraft books – which he assembled over a lifetime.

The books, in all some 2500 volumes, have been stored for the past 19 years and will be auctioned from 9.30am Friday June 19 at Young’s Auctions weekly sale at 229 Camberwell Road, East Hawthorn.

Paul Gray died several years ago and auctioneer David Young said the collection would be broken into 120 lots for the sale.
