Whitechapel Foundry bells music to the ears

A set of antique Whitechapel Foundry orchestral bells, a vintage Belgian clarinet and other vintage musical instruments should attract music lovers to Christopher Braggs Auctions latest sale from 11am Sunday at 20 Lilydale Grove, Hawthorn East.

The furniture up for auction is largely oriental with Baba Nyonya pieces and early 20th century Chinese furniture up for grabs.

Several of the paintings also are Chinese along with works by F Mutsaers, K Kandis and Tormod Holth.

Four premiership medals are among the vast collection of football memorabilia one of Carlton’s favourite sons and football playing icon Alex Jesaulenko is auctioning from 5pm on Thursday through Leski Auctions at 13 Cato Street, Hawthorn.

Well remembered for his “mark of the century” over Collingwood ruckman Graeme Jenkin during the 1970 VFL Grand Final, Jesaulenko was instrumental in Carlton’s (which was down by 44 points at half time) famous come from behind victory.

A Lladro figure of a girl beside a drawing room chair should be a major drawcard for E.J Ainger Pty Ltd’s next auction from 9.30am on Tuesday at 433 Bridge Road, Richmond.

The sale features a large number of estate furnishings and includes English retro teak furniture along with Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and 1920s furniture items.

Of particular note is a Scottish flame mahogany chest of drawers and bow end walnut display cabinet.

The auction also contains a pair of French spelter musicians, three French Louis XV-style fire fenders and a rocking horse.

Route 66 glory days up for auction

 The late Ross Wattington had such a fascination with America’s famous Route 66 – which crossed the country from Chicago to Santa Monica in California – that he spent much of his life traversing the highway collecting memorabilia relating to its glory days of the 1950s to 1970s.

In 1983, he established a Route 66 shop in Prahran that enabled other Australians to share his passion for some of the amazing hot-rod and other American symbols of the era – followed a few years later by a similar store in Sydney.
